Our Mission Statement:
Guided by Christ and Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we work to build God's kingdom on earth.
Beliefs & Values
1. We believe in the triune God: God the Father; Jesus Christ His Only Son, and His Holy Spirit.
2. As Christ loved all people, we believe our primary focus is to offer Christ-like love to all people--just where they are.
3. We believe in the power of prayer and that prayer connects us to God and changes lives.
4. We passionately believe in serving others.
To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This will build a Christian community where people become deeply committed to being Christ-followers.
Changing lives, transforming communities and renewing God's church.
Since 1915, the intention for which this church was founded has not changed. With 100 years of continuous service, this congregation confirms their intention. Be the heart, hands, and feet of Christ in Lake Panasoffkee and the surrounding area to fulfill the mission of "making Disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world"
Meet Our Pastor
Pastor Marguerite Matthews is a second career pastor who says, "I have always loved my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." After over 16 years of professional service in Christian Education, Church Administration and ministry with Senior Adults, she said, "God wouldn't leave me alone, He was calling me into full-time ministry as a United Methodist Pastor." In 1999 with great joy and empowered by God's mighty miracles, she began her quest for ordained ministry through completing a five year Course of Study for Ordained Ministry at Duke Divinity School, Durham, North Carolina in 2004.
As a native of Jacksonville, Florida, Pastor Marguerite served there for four years as pastor for rural congregation and eight years as a new church planter for the United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. In July 2012, with a great sense of God's grace and a specific calling for her to serve God's people right here in Lake Panasoffkee, she and her husband, Bob Matthews, came to serve the people and the church of this community.
Without a doubt she feels a specific calling to preach, teach and share God's love. Her desire is to see God's amazing grace and salvation through Jesus Christ offered to all of God's people. People are her priority, no matter their spiritual condition. Therefore, meeting individuals just as they are and offering Christ's transforming power is the focus of her ministry. Pastor Marguerite has a natural, gentle way of delivering God's Word through biblical preaching and teaching. Pastor Marguerite's humor and compassionate spirit make her an effective pastor, spiritual leader and friend to all she meets. Pastor Marguerite is married to Bob Matthews, and is the mother of two adult children, a son (also a United Methodist pastor) and a daughter who is a therapist with the military.
Be the change that you wish to see in the world.
How we are known:
Lake Panasoffkee United Methodist Church is known as The Church of the Fishermen. The stained glass window portrays Jesus calling His first disciples. "As Jesus walked alongside the Galilee Sea, he saw two brothers...throwing fishing nets into the sea, because they were fishermen. 'Come, follow me,' he said, 'and I'll show you how to fish for people.'" Matthew 4:18-19.
